Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe Simmons has been a staple on the East Coast poker scene for the past six years. He has earned a living at cash games --- playing limit hold'em, Omaha Hi-Low and Eight or Better Stud and more recently, no-limit holdem. He has generated over $750,000 in tournament income during that period and earned a coveted TV spot on the World Poker Tour.
A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Engineering, Joe has an exstensive background in music (his first passion before poker). While pursuing post-graduate work in Philly and hosting a local hip-hop radio show on WKDU (Drexel University), he met and became the co-manager/producer of the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group the Roots. After managing the group for five years, he left to pursue his own aspirations in music as a rapper/hip-hop producer --- building an in-home recording studio and also working as an on air-personality for Power 99 FM in Philadelphia.
A random weekend trip to Atlantic City in 2003 sparked his interest in poker and after tasting some initial success he was hooked becuase "he could work on music during the week and potentially make a week's pay on Friday and Saturday". Upon witnessing the poker boom he turned all of his attention to poker and has become a dedicated student of the game.
Joe has kept diaries of his entire career on the felt and is working on a website where he shares his ups and downs in order to educate people on what it really means to earn a living at poker. We will give out the details regarding his website as it will be launched in the very near future. He is also working on launching a hip-hop music production company called the Teachers. We look forward to more great accomplishments from Joe in the future, both on the felt and in his entrepenurial endeavors.
