Katie started playing poker in 2004 in Dallas, TX. She soon realized that tournament poker suited her, since she was a chess player as a child. Katie played poker non-stop for about 18 months. After the 2006 WSOP, she took a break from the game. Starting up again in 2008, she spent all of 2009 traveling between Vegas, Atlantic City, Foxwoods and Europe. Some of her favorite playing experiences in 2009 were the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, WSOP in Vegas, EPT Barcelona and WPT Marrakech, where she final-tabled 3 of the events. She enjoys playing in Europe because of the opportunities to meet and play with players from different countries and to see the most beautiful cities of the world.

Katie is very much a student of the game of poker and approaches the game methodically and diligently. She finds that the skillset needed for chess translates well to poker, and the study of game theory is helpful and relevant.

Katie plays online daily as Katie75013 on PokerStars.

Katie is also a successful entrepreneur. In 1997 she co-founded the largest childrens' summer chess camp organization in the United States; USA Chess (www.USAChess.com) uses the game of chess as a means of teaching critical thinking skills to children and conducts programs in more than 100 U.S. cities each summer. In 2009 she founded Strategy Teacher (www.StrategyTeacher.com), a program that uses strategical and tactical games and puzzles as a means of teaching critical thinking skills to children in a fun, summer-camp atmosphere. Katie is also a partner in Texshire Properties, Inc. (www.TexShire.com), a commercial real estate investment and management company in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
